Shakira, 34-year-old Colombian star spoke to Billboard about her charitable work with The Barefoot Foundation which assists underprivileged children in Colombia, and The Latin Recording Academy’s Latin Grammy in the Schools educational programs.

The Latin Recording Academy will host a tribute dinner and concert to honor Colombian pop singer Shakira as its 2011 Person of the Year. While she’s spending a lot of time on the road, meeting with U.N. officials, she’s confirmed she’ll be returning to the studio pretty soon.

Shakira will be honored from the World Cup anthem “Waka Waka,” whose video is the fourth-most-viewed of all time on YouTube, to her recent appointment to President Barack Obama’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, no other female artist has been able to so seamlessly manage onstage sex appeal with offstage philanthropy and purpose.
